The latest contribution to the conversation comes from the prolific New Testament professor Scot McKnight in his new book The King Jesus Gospel: The Original Good . The Apostolic Gospel is God’s declaration of the story and Kingship of His Son, Jesus, as the fulfillment of the Story of Israel. The Salvation Plan springs forth from this Story of Jesus. When the Gospel is declared, through the Holy Spirit’s power, people surrender their lives to Christ and are saved.

A greater appreciation of the Old Testament encourages a more robust understanding of the gospel. These are but a couple of the instances where I found myself largely agreeing with the content of the book. Overstatements and Points of Concern. Unfortunately, my reading of The King Jesus Gospel was something of a disjointed experience. There.   The King Jesus Gospel is a book-length treatment of the main point expressed in the CT article. Scot is undergirding his proposal by showing why he believes it makes the best sense of the Bible as a whole as well as the Bible in its individual parts.

Remember that the fundamental solution in the gospel is that Jesus is Messiah and Lord; this means there was a fundamental need for a ruler, a king, and a lord. This is where we begin to see that this might be more than simply a war of words over what exactly “gospel” means. For McKnight, the heart of the gospel is Jesus as Lord and King.   The book stands on four arguments: that the gospel is defined by the apostles in 1 Corinthians 15 as the completion of the Story of Israel in the saving Story of Jesus; that the gospel .

McKnight draws on the sermons of Jesus, Peter, Paul, the writings of post-apostle Christian leaders, and the creeds to make his case that the early church had a "gospel" culture before the Reformation inadvertently produced a "salvation" one through its Author: Scot Mcknight.

Scot McKnight's new book, "The King Jesus Gospel: The Original Good News Revisited," is a keeper. In fact, I would say it's one of the best theological books I've ever read.

Part of what makes it exciting is that McKnight is excited himself!/5. The book stands on four arguments: that the gospel is defined by the apostles in 1 Corinthians 15 as the completion of the Story of Israel in the saving Story of Jesus; that the gospel is found in the Four Gospels; that the gospel was preached by Jesus; and that the sermons in the Book of Acts are the best example of gospeling in the New : Zondervan.

✏The King Jesus Gospel Book Summary: Contemporary evangelicals have built a "salvation culture" but not a "gospel culture." Evangelicals have reduced the gospel to the message of personal salvation.

This book makes a plea for us to recover the old gospel as that which is still new and still fresh. The King Jesus Gospel clarifies for the reader that justification by grace through faith is critical to the gospel, but is not the totality of the gospel.

From a Wesleyan perspective, this definition of the gospel strengthens the biblical foundation for our hallmark emphasis on sanctification. Jesus the King is Keller’s revelatory look at the life of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark. In it, Keller shows how the story of Jesus is at once cosmic, historical, and personal, calling each of us to look anew at our relationship with God.

King’s Cross was published in hardcover in Jesus the King was published in paperback in Here Paul overtly says the gospel is to remember that Jesus is King (Christos means anointed king), that he was raised from the dead, and that he is a Davidid.

That, he overtly says, is his gospel. Designed for children ages 4 to 8, The Story of King Jesus is the gospel told in a single story—a story meant to be read from start to finish in one sitting.

Book Summary The gospel is the declaration that Jesus is Messiah and Lord and that gospel declares that the Story of Jesus completes the Story of Israel in a way that saves. This gospel counters the shallow and superficial gospeling today that reduces the gospel to four simple points and eliminates the confession that Jesus is Messiah and Lord.

Book Review: The King Jesus Gospel J James Pyles 6 Comments Contemporary evangelicals have built a ‘salvation culture’ but not a ‘gospel culture.’ Evangelicals have reduced the gospel to the message of personal salvation. The King Jesus Gospel ends with practical suggestions about evangelism and about building a gospel culture.4/5(3).

After finishing his newest book, "The King Jesus Gospel", I really believe that to be true for this argument is essentially that we've replaced the Biblical Gospel with instead a Plan of Salvation, and while the Gospel will indeed lead to salvation, it is far bigger than just that.

This book makes a plea for us to recover. The King Jesus Gospel makes a plea for us to recover the old gospel as that which is still new and still fresh. This book succinctly and without pretense demonstrates that the gospel is defined by the apostles in 1 Corinthians 15 as the completion of the story of Israel in the saving story of Jesus.

The King Jesus Gospel does much to pull readers back from reductionist gospel formulas and to help them proclaim both the person and work of Jesus Christ as the center of God’s salvation in the world.

He is Lord. The gospel centers in Him and the greater revelation of the triune God in saving creation. In Following King Jesus Workbook are 24 lessons based on four of Scot McKnight's writings (The King Jesus Gospel, The Blue Parakeet, and A Fellowship of Differents) that help you discover what it means to follow King ed to be used for personal study and within disciple-making groups.

Each lesson, created by Becky Castle Miller, has both Personal Study and Group Discussion. There are so many books by Evangelicals about Jesus and/or the gospel that another seems unnecessary - unless the other is The King Jesus Gospel. McKnight argues that the Evangelical view of gospel is incomplete, and suggests that Evangelicals should more accurately be characterized as Soterians (saved ones) based on the centrality of personal /5().1 Summary The King Jesus Gospel attempts to answer a basic and fundamental question: What is the gospel?

McKnight writes a compelling book on the startling differences between what is a gospel culture verses a salvation culture. He claims that “a salvation culture does not require members to become discipled for salvation” (McKnight, Kindle).).
